An Angel pushed me down

January 6th, 2012

I always hated skiing, but somehow I always ended with people who are diehard fans of skiing. I was actually scared of skiing since I was just 10 years old which was when I tried to make some skiing equipment with the stuff I found in our backyard. Unfortunately, when I tried to use the skiing equipment I designed myself I surprisingly fell within 15 seconds of take off and ended up with cuts on both my knees. Since then I have always made fun of people who went skiing and tried to convince myself that skiing is a stupid sport.

Skiing is certainly an adventure sport and fear cannot be valued when you are participating in an adventure sport. Fear can influence your natural reflexes which are very much needed while skiing. After I had that bad fall at the age of 10, being scared of skiing was going to be a lifetime thing, even though I hated the fact that I was scared of it. I constantly covered it up by saying that I really found skiing boring.

However, few years back when I started dating my wife, I found that she really enjoyed skiing; when she told me that, I silently whispered ‘oh no”. I think as per her she was telling something really cool about herself and she must have probably thought, just like all the guys in her family, guys all around the world are also skiing enthusiasts. Well, things that you are most scared of generally come right at your face and here I was with my in-laws for a vacation for the first time and guess what was the place they chose. Yes, it was a skiing resort. Reluctantly I went to the changing room to get ready for the disaster. While sitting on the locker room benches I prayed for divine protection. Finally when I was waiting for my turn to slide down, a gentleman happened to come and push me slightly. That was it, I was not going to let this opportunity go waste, I fell down and lay there as if something heavy had fallen on me. I acted well and everybody had pity on me and for the rest of the vacation I was allowed to view the sport, thanks to that angel who pushed me down.
